I LOVE my Furminator!!
The bunnies are starting to molt again.. so the Furminator was put to the test.
With just a few strokes on Yohji, I got a whole handful of fur:
I could also get the same amount of fur by using my hands to groom him, but it will definitely take a longer time. This handful of fur was ‘harvested’ in just a couple of minutes!
I also find that there is less fur flying around when I use the Furminator. The Furminator’s teeth are rather close together, so the fur tends to get trapped within the teeth-gaps instead of flying free around the apartment. I think it helps to use slow, gentle motions when running the Furminator through their coat.. fast strokes seem to allow more loose fur to escape.
The only thing is that, the Furminator is a little hard to maneuver around their rump. I only get a chance to groom the bunnies when they’re busy eating (otherwise they’d just run off and flick their little feet at me!), which means they’re crouched down, so I can’t really groom their rump as the Furminator handle gets in the way.. the handle hits the ground and I can’t comb any further down those little butts.. well, I guess this has nothing to do with the Furminator, lol, I need to find a better position in which to groom them. For now, I just use my hands when it comes to grooming rumps.
Here’s Buttons, looking pretty after getting her ruffled fur tamed by the Furminator. She still has molt lines above her nose and along her back.
*What nonsense! I was born pretty! The Furminator had no role to play in that!!*

*Huh? Me, again?? NOOoooo…. Go harass Yohji!*

*Oh no! What’s that you’re hiding behind your back?? I saw a flash of steel and blue.. I don’t like the feel of this.. running off NOW!!*

*Phew, that was close! I should be safe here below the couch.. *

Hello, you two are very nice looking bunnies! Mom wants to know how you make the Furminater thingy work on the bunnies because it doesn’t work for us, I guess. She hasn’t tried it on me. I don’t know what it is… will I like it?
Umm.. I use the Furminator the same way as other combs.. LOL, that doesn’t help, does it? OK let’s see, ‘dip’ the teeth into the bunny’s coat, run it through the coat for a short distance (say an inch or two), then pull the teeth out upwards. So its kind of like a pendulum motion, overall.. is that any better??
I’m not sure if you’ll like it though.. Buttons & Yohji are not too impressed by it, but then again, they disapprove of anything but themselves..
An impressive harvest to be sure. Although T and S get brushed when they are shedding much of our harvest seems to be collected on my shirt of the moment. Furminator sounds awesome.
Most of ours is on my pants or caught on the ceiling fans!!!! Good lookin’ de furred fur-balls!
Looks like a great gadget! We’ll have to try one.
Wow, the furminator looks good!
I’m yet to try out the Zoom Groom, my buns are not molting yet!
i just saw this thingy on amazon and googled it.
my buns seem to molt more than twice a year, they are rather contrary. i have seven, some came to me as “special” a couple, including my lionhead, came just out of love. but all of them are cuddlers, so this might be a great tool for me.
question: which particular furminater do you use?
and has anyone tried one on a lionhead, are they harmful to the coat??
uh, and that’s not my avatar! >
Hi Bionic Bunny, thanks for dropping by!

Seven bunnies, and all cuddlers?! You are so lucky!!
The Furminator which I have is the smallest-sized one (1.75inch blade). None of my bunnies have long fur, so I’m not sure how it would work on a lionhead’s coat, but I have a friend who told me it works fine on her rabbit’s coat (it’s a rather woolly rabbit). On the other hand, another friend said that the ‘teeth’ were not long enough to penetrate her rabbit’s thick fur.. she was also using the same sized Furminator as mine. Is there a money-back guarantee for the Furminator where you’re located? If so, maybe you can purchase it & see if it works on your lionhead. Do let me know
