Hans is 15½ weeks old now, more than old enough to be introduced to greens.. so I decided to give it a try.
I offered him a tiny bit of celery leaves. He wasn’t the least excited about it, and just stared at it suspiciously for a long time:
Hans didn’t make any effort to go near the celery leaves, so I pushed it closer to him. Finally, he got up, sniffed it and took the tiniest bite:
He actually jumped back in surprise, after the nibble! Did it taste that bad to him? He must have tastebuds like mine.. I don’t like celery either, lol! Look at his surprised face:
Once he got over his initial surprise, he turned around and gave the celery his bunny butt:
After punishing the celery for a sufficiently long time, he then went to have a dinner of hay:
I tried again.. took the celery and placed it into his hay bowl:
Hans immediately moved over to his bowl of pellets, the naughty fella!
OK, so he’s clearly not interested in the celery. I’ve noticed that he’s fussier with food, compared to Buttons and Yohji. It wasn’t as easy to switch him over to Oxbow 15/23 pellets when we first got him. He would dig out all the new pellets in search of the ones he was used to. Quite a bit of Oxbow pellets went to waste back then.. but he’s alright with it now.
I plan to continue offering Hans celery throughout this week.. allowing him more time to accept this new food. If he still doesn’t touch his celery by the end of the week, then I’ll try another type of vegetable. Maybe a fragrant herb will do the trick.. we’ll see.. hopefully I’ll be able to find something to suit his tastes 😀
