Hans is back at home, safe and sound (except for a minor tooth issue.. more on that later)!
Thanks to everyone for their well wishes! Thanks also to those who contacted me to check up on Hans post-op! Hans is most touched to know such caring humans 😀
Here’s the little trooper, on the way to the vet:
Compared to Buttons and Yohji, Hans is least bothered by car rides. He’s actually quite curious while in the car, and would frequently peek out from his carrier:
Wondering why there are no bunny-friendly tunes on the air:
We dropped Hans off around noon, and picked him up at 4 p.m.
His neuter went well. As for his teeth, the x-ray shows that there isn’t any root intrusion, yay! But.. his right upper incisor is growing sideways to the left and is blocking the left upper incisor from growing. As rabbits’ teeth grow continuously, this blockage creates pressure on the left upper incisor.
The vet suspects that the area around Hans’ left upper incisor root may be inflamed, as some pus came out from his gums when the vet was filing the left upper incisor. The inflamed area is likely to be blocking the left tear duct, hence the teary left eye.
Hans’ upper and lower incisors have been filed really short. We will wait to see how the upper incisors grow. If the right upper incisor continues to grow at that funny angle, we’ll consider removing the left upper incisor. I don’t want the inflammation to lead to an abscess, which would be hard to treat. The vet is still against removing the other healthy incisors, he’ll only remove the left upper incisor if pus continues to grow at the root.
For now, Hans left eye is OK. It hasn’t been teary since Saturday. I hope that indicates a reduction in the inflamed area.
Here’s Hans in his ‘recovery room’, right after we brought him home:
Still feeling groggy..
.. but his body didn’t feel as cold this time around:
Yohji ate and pooped almost immediately after his neuter. Hans took much longer.. he only started eating and pooping at about 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
Some pictures of Hans today:
He prefers hiding out in his cardboard box today, instead of the pink bed:
He also doesn’t seem too bothered about the neuter. Yohji would constantly lick the surgery area, but I haven’t seen Hans do that. Hans is being very macho about things
