Furrybutts is a blog dedicated to the furry-butted critters in my life
I started out with 1 house bunny, Buttons. She came home with me in April 2007. A couple of months later, I decided to get her a companion (Yohji), in case she got lonely at home while I was at work.
Well, silly me, I thought I could stop at just TWO house bunnies. Little did I know then how addictive bunnies can be! It’s a real joy having them around, I love watching them doing bunny-F1 laps around the living room, crashing into things and sending their toys flying all over! I love it when they perform happy binkies; its a hoot when they topple over in the midst of grooming themselves, and Li’l Miss Buttons has this habit of snatching letters/bills from my hands while I’m reading them and running around the room with that piece of paper in her mouth, looking for a safe place to destroy it! There’s never a dull moment with these bunners around!
And so, in July 2008, the little furry family expanded to include Hans. Am I going to stop at 3 bunnies? I don’t know, it’s really hard to resist their cute little faces!! But for now, 3’s the limit. There isn’t enough space in the apartment for more bunnies. Maybe when I move to a bigger place… ๐
Alright, without further ado, here are the Furrybutts:
Furrybutt #1:
Buttons a.k.a. Boss Bunny
Buttons is the alpha bunny. She’s bonded to Yohji and she bosses him around, demanding lots of grooming from him. If she doesn’t get her way, she nips him in the butt! However, her relationship with Yohji is slowly improving as the days go by. I catch her grooming Yohji occasionally, which is something she never ever did when they were first bonded.
Buttons is very territorial and doesn’t take kindly to new bunnies in our home. She greets them by lunging, growling and boxing them with her front paws. But she’s the total opposite with humans.. and she gives people bunny kisses and licks!
Buttons is very sharp and alert. She must know all that is going on at home and she’s always there to investigate everything that I do. She knows her name, too, although sometimes she’s just too lazy to respond when I call for her.. unless there’s a treat in store. I love her bratty butt to bits!

Furrybutt #2:
Yohji
Yohji’s a real gentle bunny. Good thing he submits to Buttons, otherwise bonding these two would have been much more difficult!
For some reason, although I treat all bunnies the same way, Yohji has never been too fond of humans. He would move away whenever anyone approaches him (not so much out of fear, he doesn’t have that wide-eyed fearful look on him.. but more out of an aversion towards physical contact with people).
I’ve been working with him on his ‘issues’.. His weakness is his love for treats. He goes crazy for any sort of treat and would do anything to get a bite! So, I started out by sitting cross-legged on the ground while holding the treat close to me. That way, he’d have to stand on my legs to get his treat. He was very reluctant at first, but his cravings soon got the better of him.. now, he has no qualms about stepping all over me to get to the treat and he doesn’t move away if I go near him while he’s resting on the ground. He also allows me to pet him for long periods of time. But.. he still has issues with strangers. This is one tough bunny to win over!

Furrybutt #3:
Hans
Hans is the littlest bun here, but he is full of bunnitude! If anyone gets in his way, he does not hesitate to nudge and push them away. With a lot of force! He even stands up on his hind legs and uses his front paws to kind of smack me and push me away. Cheeky, and oh-so-cute!
Hans is the first vocal bun here. Buttons and Yohji have never made any sounds (except for Buttons growling at new bunnies) but Hans makes baby-like sounds when I carry him, and he honks when I pet him.
Sadly, Hans left to be with the angels in heaven just shortly after his 1st birthday. I was very attached to him and it was a difficult time. He’ll forever be in my heart.

Furrybutt #4:
Bailey
Oh wow, I’ve got a fourth bunny! So much for stopping at 3..
The initial plan was to bond Hans with Buttons & Yohji after Hans was neutered. That didn’t happen, because Buttons & Yohji continued to react aggressively towards Hans. So little Bailey joined the family as Hans’ companion. Hans had a role in picking Bailey.. read more about it in this post ๐
Bailey is a sweet boy. He’s a gentle soul and never tires of grooming Hans. Bailey is also a rather vocal bun! He snorts a lot, although I haven’t quite figured out what his snorts mean..

Hey, it’s Hannah (Mini Paws Rabbitry), but with the new blog. Now whenever you click on the blog link in my website it automatically takes you to my new blog on wordpress. ๐ http://www.minipawsbunnies.wordpress.com And a question, whenever you put pictures on here, how do you get the captions at the bottom?
hehe… um… I gots another question on how to use wordpress… lol, How do you get the pictures on the sidebar? Like you have the “Awards From Our Wonderful Friends” How did you get that on there? Thanks… lol
What I do is.. upload the photos I want to use into a draft post. Then I add the ‘Text’ widget, and insert the html code for the photo into the text widget. Does that make sense?
Um… I think so! lol thanks!
I decided to get the down low on the kids and I’m glad I did. Thouth they’re a mixed group they sound like a bundle of fun and love. We feel the same way about our 2 kitties and our dog. We just love them!
Hey your bunny family looks like alot of fun! I was wondering what breeds are they?
Hey, there.
Love the Furrybutts blog! Have had it on my blogroll for a while now.
Can you send me an email? (dana@bunnyblab.com) I’d like to ask you an offline question.
Thanks!

furrybuts, talking about hans…so cute…what breed is it??
He’s a Netherland Dwarf
Are you sure Hans did not have a heart condition? We have an 8 month old kitten who lays with his front paws / legs wide apart, is very ADHD and eats like a horse too but before I had him neutered I realized there was something wrong when he could not play hard without becoming exhausted. Yup, he has a narrowing of a valve in his heart and is on medication for the rest of his life. I had this thought when I saw the wide placement of Hans’ front legs – to expand the chest to breathe easier. Also, an abcess and infection would maybe have put extra strain on his heart if it was not functioning well? Just a thought. Maybe a number of things came together all at once and it was just his time. It is hard when you have no explination. We had a year old wild rabbit my husband found in the woods and when the bunny was the size of a cell phone. No other rabbits anywhere around – he looked! It never had much of a tail and some things were just off such as his size – never got the size he should have. He started to act strange one evening a month after the year mark and the next AM died in our daughter’arms. No real reason except that he must have had a number of congenital defects which was why he was abandoned by the mother to start with. One never knows.
I’m not sure if Hans had a heart condition.. he went through 2 surgeries (neutering & incisor removal) successfully and I never detected any breathing difficulties in him but I’ll never really know for sure. I’m sorry to hear about your wild rabbit’s passing.. perhaps he and Hans have found each other in bunny heaven and are having lots of fun playing together ๐ Good vibes to your kitten, it’s good to know there’s medication to keep his condition under control.
Hi Yoji, Bailey, Buttons and humans,
Just wanted to say that I miss reading about you and the bunners adventures in SE Asia.
I hope your heart is beginning to heal from the loss of Hans. I lost my sweet bunny in October and I completely understand the unimagineable pain. These furry angels grab onto our hearts and shatter them when they leave us. But I know that my sweet Simon is watching over me; just as Hans is watching over his beloved family.
Lots of Love,
Sarah, Sammie (the bunny) and Oliver (the cat)
I’m sorry that Simon has left the mortal world. You’re right, the furry ones have a way of working themselves deep into our hearts ๐ Hans is still dearly missed. I do hope he and simon are in a much much happier place now *hugs*

Hello
I’m from Brazil and I have a mini rabbit lion a year and eight months and have problem of dental malocclusion. Tell me please, how was the extraction of the incisor Hans. I have doubts and fear of the postoperative period. How was anesthesia, as he adapted … thank you.
