Nothing much going on with the bunnies this weekend. Everybun went about his/her own way, enjoying the good ol’ bunny routine of eating, sleeping & pooping.. until they were rudely interrupted by us, hehe! Yep, it’s nail trimming time again!
Yohji was the first ‘victim’:
We try not to pick him up too frequently because each time we pick him up, he reverts back a little to his skittish old self. But his nails have gotten really long, we couldn’t leave him out this time:
Yohji managed to escape after I finished with 3 paws, which means we have to grab him again another time to finish the last paw. Not looking forward to that.. I don’t want to break the bond which I’ve been trying so hard to form with him.
Later on, it was Hans’ turn:
He wasn’t happy with the trimming session, but overall, he’s quite a cool bun 😎 I fed him some rolled oats and he was munching away happily while lying in that odd position. Remember how I’ve been trying to get Hans to eat his greens, and some fruits/treats? He still refuses to touch any of those. So far, rolled oats are the only treats this fussy guy will accept! He gets them in limited amounts but he really goes crazy over them. At least now, I have something to reward him with when he’s being a good boy.
Here’s a pic for those who love big bunny feetsies as much as I do:
Buttons watched us out of the corner of her eye. She was on to us!
She sought solace in her cardboard box:
Oh well, trimming the nails of 2 bunnies over 1 weekend is a big feat for us as it is! It’s a challenge grabbing them and keeping them still. And then there’s the fear that I’ll accidentally hit the quick when trimming a nail. Even though I’ve trimmed their nails many times, I still feel nervous each time I have to do it.
So Buttons’ nails are safe for now.. we’ll continue the trimming sessions next weekend 😀
Yeah, the nail trimming is always hard and stressful, no matter how many times you do it. I find that if you are calm though, the buns will be calm(er).
Betsy used to put up quite a fight when I had to pick her up (I’ve got pictures of the scratches on my arms) but now she’s much better – so, practice makes perfect, even though nobody likes it!
Great photos! Your comment about how black and white photos can save pictures with bad white balance adds another good idea for when to use black and white. My favorites are 4,5, and 6. The shallow depth of field on 4 is perfect.
I attempted to trim my buns nails this weekend too!!! i ended up with some scratches on my arm and thigh 😦 that also only managed to trim their hind legs. will continue next weekend also … will need extra hand then. hehhe
You’re a great photographer as well as a great mum.
ok guys….i’ve been trying to get the perfect furrybutt photos to dedicate to you. i wish i knew how to photoshop bells’s back end a little. it’s maybe a tad graphic.
xoxo~”alice”
Those are some awesome bunny feet!- Andrew’s Mum
I hate getting my nails trimmed! I used to kick and head butt when I was younger but I am better now! = Andrewbun
why are the photos black?
i thought you went back digging of old photos…
awww Yohji……..so cuteee
yes it is not easy to carry them in that manners
i have my fair share too…..
mine their black legs will start shaking – i guess they fear as though i am going to chop them hahaha
is Yohji heavy?
my BitBit is extremely heavy when i carry him…but he tends to sleep in the position……. like me carrying a big baby 🙂
i dont deny – i get nervous too when i do trimming for them..
like catching chicken as times…
We don’t like it either, but we Just Do It .. because those 2-foots won’t give up!
i love the last photo… let see how long she can hides in that box, lol!
yikes…nail trimming sessions..but had to be done, no choice. I sent the bunnies to the pro…as I am more afraid than them during the trimming sessions. Nice sets of B&W photos. Are your bunnies always under the couch? Panas ka? The last time we let the bunnies at home, we had a hard time. One of the kitchen cabinets was opened and one of the bunnies went in. I closed it not realising she was inside, took us forever to search for her.
Your bunnies must hate nail-trimming time.
I like your new theme by the way 🙂
Vivien, Yohji is slightly less than 2kgs. How heavy is Bit Bit?
M.Kate, the bottom of the couch is Buttons’ favourite spot.. she’s been sleeping there every since she was a baby. Yohji just recently picked up the habit of sleeping there as well. I think they like narrow spaces, makes them feel more secure 😀
Ippo, thanks! Yup, I don’t think any of them enjoy getting their nails done, lol!
nail trimming is always a challenge, you did well doing so much of it without mishap. Love the photos, wonderful bunny feet
My BitBit is 2.5kg the last time i took him to the vet…
I noticed he is fat and very lazy…
so you get what i mean…he seldom… moves…I normally have to push him to move….
i let him out – guess what he just stand next to his cage…..waiting….. i did ask the vet doc if he overweight…
is he???
It’s hard to judge based on the weight alone. When you run your hands down his back, you should be able to feel very slight bumps where his spine is. Same thing with his ribs. If it’s difficult to feel his bones, then he may be a bit on the chubby side. Can he still groom himself on the back/around the bum area? Still eating his cecals? If he is, then he’s not obese. Hope that helps!
Bit Bit is around 8 years old, right? Some senior bunnies slow down in terms activities, when they reach that age.. perhaps his just enjoying his days in slow motion hehe
He is already on his early 90’s
ageing….. his face is so old…….but he is still baby in his heart..grooming… he does from time to time but he always expect me to do for him……i know him really well – a little spoilt rabbit
Your Yohji really reminds me of my BitBit except the ears
referring to your photo – Buttons
does she senses that you are up to something ….
hiding from you? that look of hers….like saying oh no….haha
I got snow here:

I used the snow.js

Now, Buttons, you want to be able to hop into the Ox Year with nicely trimmed nails, do you?????
Great pics, as always, FB, I know what you mean about betraying the trust that has been nurtured. Have been told by those who think they know do just pick them up more often, but it’s hard if you have to chase them around each time, that just seems counter productive…….
Oh no! Not the nail trimming! Everyone at the zoo disapproves of that!
Love the black and white pics though:)
Nail Trimming is the worst! Hard work and no rewards for the trimmer except disapproving looks! Love to look at those bunny feet though!
Thank you so much for your lovely words on Hugo Bun!
Well done on the nails trimming – Hugo didn’t like having his nails trimmed either, and surely is disapproving now from the country over the Rainbow Bridge. Miss Eve is so much better at nails trimming, also because once caught she does not struggle.
oh gorgeous bunny feetsies!!! I have to clip Charlie’s nails in stages so he doesn’t get too stroppy. I’m going have to get my husband to hold him for me soon…you know those claws that are slightly further down on the front paws? I call them his thumb nails…they are way too long but I just get the right angle by myself…
sorry that should be ‘just CAN’T get the the right angle’. oops.
Wow….love the photos, it looook so chubby!!!! Feel like squeezing it!
